We adopt the Development Process when the client is very clear on the requirements of the project. The development process makes use of the V model method where the probability of changes in requirements is less. It is applied for standard products like ERP applications. We have done medium sized to large sized projects in the business domains we are familiar with using the V model method.
Process
Project Initiation
This phase entails a detailed study of the requirements of the project. Following it, a methodology appropriate to the requirements is selected and the project gets started.
Estimation for V model
A complete Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the given project is prepared. Estimations for each task are arrived at and compared using the FP counting method. A final estimate is prepared and sent to the client.
Project Planning
A project plan is drawn up. The MPP system is used to split the plan into different components so that they can be worked on simultaneously. A schedule is accordingly drawn and the right resource assigned for its completion. The requirements for hardware and software are noted. The project planning also involves plotting risks and contingency plan, assumptions and dependencies and processes to be followed for the given project.
Project Tracking
The progress of the project with respect to its schedule is tracked and managed accordingly. Adherence to the track process is ensured. Risks, dependencies and assumptions that arise during project implementation are managed according to the specified plan. Once the work has been completed satisfactorily, the project is closed. |
